THE NINTH GATE (1999)

this is a terrible trailer, by the way.
this movie has been criticized a lot, but i think most of the negative reviews have missed the point entirely. i just watched it for the 5th or 6th time and enjoyed it as much if not more than any previous time. there is a lot going on in this film, layers of symbolism, some obvious, some not so much. i would rank it among polanski's best (gasp!) and it's easily one of my favorite movies ever. classy.
